Sterilization
Objectives:
Method 1: Ethanol Treatment
Procedure: 2 rinses of 70% undenatured ethanol followed by 4 rinses of phosphate buffer saline
Duration: 1 hour in ethanol (per wash), 10 minutes in PBS (per wash)
Method 2: Ultraviolet Light Treatment
Procedure: Expose scaffold to 254nm of light at a distance of 15cm
Duration: 1 hour
Method 1 was selected.

- Selection of sterilization method for scaffold which will destroy microbial life in order to prevent undesired growth and contaminants during cell culture
- Design of sterilization environment and establishment of necessary parameters to support required conditions.
- To conduct preliminary tests in order to determine the degree of contamination for scaffold sterilization via 70% ethanol treatment and exposure to ultraviolet light.
